One day your phone is ringing off the hook. The next day—nothing. You check Google and see the nightmare: "This listing has been suspended."
For contractors, this is an emergency. No Google listing means no calls. No calls means no jobs. No jobs means no revenue.
Take a breath. This is fixable.
Why Google Suspends Contractor Listings
Using a P.O. Box or virtual office. Google requires a real address where you receive mail. If you're a service-area business that goes to customers, you can hide your address—but it still needs to be real.
Keyword stuffing your business name. If your legal business name is "Smith Roofing" but your Google listing says "Smith Roofing - Best Roofer in Dallas - Affordable Roof Repair" you will get suspended. Google hates this.
Multiple listings for the same business. One business, one listing. If you accidentally created duplicates, Google will suspend them.
Fake reviews. Bought reviews from a service? Had employees leave reviews? Google's AI catches this and suspends listings.
How to Get Reinstated
First, fix whatever caused the suspension. Then go to your Google Business Profile dashboard and click "Request Reinstatement." Be honest about what happened. Include documentation proving your business is legitimate—utility bills, business license, etc.
Most reinstatements take 3-7 business days. Some take longer if Google needs to verify by mail.
The waiting is brutal. Every day without your listing costs you money. But once you're back, protect that listing like your business depends on it—because it does.
